Moving to home-base, Central
Park, Coach Adrian set the team
in motion for strategic moves
and using their skills on the
field with tact. A strong
team was starting to form, one
with great skills, and smiles.
The team was having fun, but at
the same-time, getting the
strength a tournament team
needs. With conditioning
skills, Coach Adrian was able to
bring their full ability to last
two or three games a day.
The
team was ready for tournament
play... The team's first
stop would be Victorville, Ca.
A different town, different
fields, and Hotel Rooms.
What a treat for our first time
tournament players, and Coach
Scott too! Dorothy might
have found she wasn't in Kansas
anymore, but Coach Scott found
he was not in Saugus anymore,
but had Saugus 46 pride
surrounding him. The
cheers from the sidelines,
SS_SAU_GG_GUS was heard across
the fields and this team was
pumped to play. Walking
away just missing out on the
medal round, the Saugus Heat
walk away with smiles on, and
ready for more...
Just when you thought traveling
100 miles to play soccer was a
"road-trip," the team
packed a
few more bags, and headed to
Bullhead City, Arizona.
With lodging in Bullhead City
being slim, the team and their
families were forced to stay in
Laughlin, Nevada. (Remember
that, parents?) What a
blast to be on the road with
such a great group of families.
Moms and Dads, Sisters and
Brothers, Grandmas and Grandpas,
all came together to cheer on
this team... Awesome support!
The team was struggling to
medal, and played in Woodland
Hills and San Pedro, before
medaling in Bakersfield, Ca,
where they walked away with 4th
place hardware, and pumping them
up with pride.
The team would play their "Home
Town" tournament, The SCV
Showdown. While it was
great to be able to eat at our
own Del Taco, not that the one
in Bakersfield was bad or
anything... but to be home and
play was a real treat. The
team felt they had a strong
chance at medaling... only to be
taking down by a strong team,
yet still walking away with
smiles, and returning to support
our sister team, Saugus ice!
The team headed to our
neighboring City of Palmdale,
Ca, the team was pumped, but
missing a player, calling for
our Sub, BreAnna, to step in to
fill the gap. (Bre and her
mother had already attended a
few games to be familiar with
the team) What a treat it was to
beat the local team and walk
away with hardware.
Ok, enough local stuff, this
team was headed up the coast to
take in the Santa Barbra (Ca)
Splash. B_E_A_UTIFUL
Soccer! This team was
glowing in the California Sun,
and pumped all weekend, bring
home well deserved hardware
after battling for almost two
hours straight. The team
tied in the plays and was forced
into double-overtime.
Still in a tie, the two teams
were forced to a shoot-out, with
Heat coming out on top.
This team really liked the
beach... so it was off to
Mission Viejo, Ca. The
team woke to heavy mist and
clouds, not what anyone expected
in South Orange County,
California. In the second
game, the team found themselves
having a hurt player. Caitlyn
took one for the team and ended
up at the hospital, only to
still show up for dinner that
night as-well-as the game the
next day, although on
crutches... She is truly a team
player.
The team had one more chance to
medal... the last tournament....
As the team headed off to
Solvang, Ca, they found they
were going to be playing two
other teams from Saugus, and one
local team. The team ended
up walking away with 3rd place
trophies to add to their 2005
GU12 Tournament, Saugus Heat!,
Hardware.
The time came to say goodbye and
thanks to the players, families
and coaches. The team
gathered for a night of
celebration and looked back on a
great tournament season filled
with soccer & fun!
We will see you all on the
fields, as we head into Fall
2005.
