The Heat! Was On, In Santa Barbara
June 5th, 2005
The Saugus H e a t !  Girls U12 tournament Team took on the Santa Barbara Splash with great success, bringing home 3rd place hardware.

Saturday made for a hard day of soccer for the Heat!, with a 3-3 tie, and a 5-0 loss.

Sunday morning came, focus and control were on the minds of the team.  A strong defense was set into play,

yet the offence seemed to take control of the game from the start.

An impressive game of soccer, mind-set and set-plays showed for a great strategic game of soccer.  One, two, three, with a total of 8 goals scored, the Heat saw not one, but TWO HAT TRICKS!  Jess and Jenna and Jessica were on fire the entire game, moving and on top of the ball, play after play...

The entire team played an awesome game of soccer, proving that they all have game, and a hunger for the win.  Alexis, and Melissa had great ball control, with Amber, B.J. and K.J. providing spectacular throw-ins, and Rachel showing the true meaning of "defense!"   Becky and Kates proved why the are in the net.  Awesome saves were made by both keepers. The team walk away proud, and the coaches couldn't have been more honored to have this team call them, "Coach!"

The time of waiting and wondering set in... "did we make it to the play off game?" - YES!
After taking 2nd in pool play, the Heat! was ready to hit the beach, grab a small bite to eat, and came back ready to play, for 3rd over all.

What proved to be a tough game of soccer, the Heat! scored and held off the strong team, until the fourth, with just minutes to play, the team from Agora Hills got a P.K. in the net, with the game ending in a 1-1 tie.

Forced into double over time, the teams battled it out with no-score.

BANG, BANG, Shoot'em Up!  It was time for a shootout, one of soccer's most intense displays of one-on-one talent.

The Saugus Heat! walked away with the most goals scored and were awarded the 3rd place medals of the Santa Barbara Splash Tournament.

Heat! Brings Home Hardware From The Quartz Hill Shootout
May 15th, 2005
110% is what Saugus Heat! put on the field this weekend, in the Antelope Valley.

Saturday mornings first game was a forfeit by a team from Castaic, making for a later arrival to the beautiful Lancaster Soccer Complex, and scoring a win for the team.

The team took the field for the second game with the want and the hunger for the game.  The strength and want for the win, the Heat

was on, giving the 110% they took the field with, never letting down on their game.
The defense was strong and the speed on the field was amazing to say the least. In an aggressive game of soccer, this team showed the drive and will it takes to be champions, with a strong head and heart for the game.

With outstanding plays made by all, the team held off the strong Granada Hills team to a 1-0 loss.

Sunday Morning.... up at the crack of dawn and on the road.  Driving on the highway and seeing the Saugus Heat! window stickers is a real boost for a morning drive to the fields, a real sign of the support the team has.
The team showed up to the field starving and hungry for the ball.  The want for the game was in their eyes and the will to win was in their game.

The home team from Quartz Hill didn't know what hit them as the Heat was on from the blow of the referees whistle.  Pump, Pump, Pump It Up!

The Heat never let down, never letting the end of the game enter their mind, they took it play, by play.  Great soccer was being played on the field, that was the same field the U14 teams were playing on... but the U12 teams were playing with only 9 players on the field, while U14 played with 11 players.  Strong plays, defense and offence were working together making for a great game, with the Heat! walking away with the win.

The Quartz Hill Shootout is a fun tournament, with a shootout after every match.  They tally up the goals scored, with Heat! placing second in their pool.

Taking 2nd place in pool play, the Heat! moved into the cross pool playoffs, for the 3rd / 4th   s p o t.

The Heat! was on in the playoff match, yet the other team seemed to be a step ahead, play after play.  So many shots on goal, but the keeper was always there to stop the Heat!  A great game played by a great team.
The Heat! walk away with 4th place hardware and many smiles from all!

The girls played great; everyone had some fun in the sun; and we came home with hardware!  Thank you to Laurie and moms for the great picnic lunch, our awesome referee team, and of course, the families.

Saugus HEAT! Pump, Pump, Pump It Up
May 1st, 2005

Saugus Heat! started the 14th annual SCV Showdown on fire and proved scoring in 6 to 12 seconds is what they know how to do, walking away from their first game with a 6-0 win against Westchester.

In their second game, the heat was on as they took on Van Nuys.  In a Even Steven's match, the two teams battled it out showing a 1-1 tie in the fourth quarter, only for the Heat to be called on a penalty, and Van Nuys scoring the P.K. to take the win.

Sunday morning... game 3.  The Saugus Heat! was pumped and ready to play a great match of soccer, when, what I call "A Cup Of Coffee!," known as a wake up call came into light.  This team from North Oxnard ranked themselves as a (Y - Young Team) but, they stepped up with a top flight game, calling for Saugus Heat! to cover more then control.  A strong defense, yet the strong opponents seemed to score and score again.

Sideline Notes: As a team, the Saugus Heat! has the most awesome sideline.  The support and cheers from Mom's and Dad's, Sisters and Brothers, Grandmas and Grandpas and even aunts and uncles, proves this team as a whole has Saugus Pride!

Friday Night - Girls from Saugus Heat! showed their support for our sister team, Saugus ICE.  The GU14 team put up a great fight against Valencia, scoring the only goal of the game, late in the fourth, walking away with the win against the cross-town-rival.

Saturday Night - A Whole Lotta Rockin' Going On!  Most of the team and their families meet up at the all new Primo's Pizza, in Saugus, for some pizza and karaoke.  The team took the stage doing their theme song.. "We Will Rock You!" and continued to entertain the crowded pizza parlor for a couple of hours. Not to be out done by the kids, "The Coaches and Soccer Moms" took the stage doing their rendition of, "Summer Nights" from the movie Grease!  A crowed pleaser I must add...

*** Coach Scott tried to take the stage with his solo act, yet was boycotted by the Karaoke Mistress, so here are two MP3s for those who wanted to hear...

Trust You With My Heart

Foolish Pride

The Saugus HEAT! Brings Home Some Hardware
April 25th, 2005

Region 46's GU12 Tournament Team, Saugus Heat! walked away with a fourth place finish in the Jim Brady Memorial Classic, in Bakersfield  this past weekend, after a tough play-off game against Palmdale.

The team played full-heartedly and showed their Saugus pride in all 5 games played at CSUB.

Saugus Heat! - (left to right) Standing: Becky Jacoby, Melissa Foote, Katie Janes, Rachel Hill, Alexis Dubin and Caitlin Lopez. Kneeling: Jessica Heade, Jenna Vincej, Jessie Weber and Amber Agron. In-front: Goal Keepers, Becky Gragas and Katlyn Grams

GU12 Puts On The HEAT! In Double Over-Time!
April 10th, 2005
(San Pedro, Ca) - 110% Pure Soccer!  The Saugus Heat GU12 Tournament Team from Saugus, California, played the Field Of Dreams, in the Founders Cup this weekend.

Saturday morning was set a top a windy hill in the San Pedro harbor, and we all know what wind does to a flying soccer ball...  Bringing on a little more of a challenge, the Heat took the field with a head strong game despite the head winds. 3 games were played bringing 2 ties and 1 win, calling for the team to return Sunday for quarter final play-offs.

Sunday...  The team was focused and ready to play.

11v11 soccer is a little more than the team is use to playing, and the fields were to proper scale, with only one sub on the sideline.  The team readied and took the field with a win set in heart.

Right from the kick-off, the game was real aggressive, with hunger in the eyes of both teams.  Awesome soccer moves were on the field from the Heat.  Over the head bicycle kicks, headers, slide tackles to mention a few.

The Heat's defense was on top and tight.  Balls that should have been in the net from W. Torrance, were denied by the strongest defense to be displayed on the field.

With one sub on the sideline, Saugus Heat! couldn't take on any injuries... and then it happened....  Amber was down, and her knee was done for the day....

Intense soccer... only to be the quietest the Heat! sidelines have ever been...  pacing parents, cheerleaders silent, coaches in awe.... The final whistle blew with a tie... sending the Saugus Heat! in-to Double-Over-Time!

After 3 games on Saturday, one just played, (4 games in 24 hours) the team was told they would play over-time, with no subs...

Backing down was not an option, as we were not doing ballet!

Clean intense soccer comes from the team, and their strength betters the closer they get to the gold.

Soccer moves and plays such as slide-tackles can only show we are not at dance class and the Saugus Heat! put the moves on the field.

The opponents subbing #6 and #12, put them in the play to make a move and with a little help from the wind... the ball touched the Heats net, giving W. Torrance a 1-0 lead.

Backing down is not an option in the heads of these athletes, and the Heat stepped up but was only to be taking one more time as W. Torrance would take the over-time win 2-0.

The Saugus Heat! went in full-heartedly, and they left their hearts on the Field Of Dreams.

A trip to Cold Stone Creamery brought a few smiles back on the faces of the team, and The Saugus Heat! says they are ready to head to Bakersfield and get the gold!

Saugus Heat! Proves, They Got Game!
March 13th, 2005
(Woodland Hills, Ca) The Saugus Heat Girls U12 soccer team proved to themselves, They Got Game!

On Saturday, the team lost their morning game, only to come back with a shut-out!  Great soccer was played with each team member showing moves normally only seen in High School ball or higher.  Headers were a definite factor in the 2nd game, where the ball gained more frequent flyer miles than Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Hillary Duff combined.

Great control using the body to stop the ball, and slide tackles also proved, practice makes better!

Sunday morning has meant the same thing in the past two tournaments... we play Burbank...  Burbank has proven to be a strong team, shutting out the Heat match after match with nothing less than a 3-0 score...

So, what would be different about this Sunday morning in this tournament?  Well, it was Saugus Vs. Burbank like always, but this time.... things were a bit different.

SSSAU-----GGGUS-----S A U G U S - Go Saugus!  By no chance were the sidelines quite... It's unheard of.  In the first minutes of the game, Saugus Heat moved on Burbank as if it was an Ambush on Al qaeda.  Teamwork, Strength and true control, proved to Burbank, Saugus Heat is a soccer team to be dealt with.

In no-way, does a coach, parent or player want to see a hurt player on the field.  Well, these girls stepped up to the plate, and didn't let a few bloody knees, bruises and sprains slow them down. "That game was more intense than any championship game I've been in..." commented Head Coach, Adrian Gragas.

The girls were tough, and had two penalties called on them, bringing on two direct kicks... one to Kates, and one to Becky, and both were denied!!!  Those two players crushed the heart of Burbank's sideline, and heated up that of The Saugus Heat!

With Moms and Dads, Sisters and Brothers, Grandmas and Grandpas, he sidelines were also filled with players of The Saugus ICE GU14 team, who was there and just as much a part of the game as anyone on the sidelines, showing True Saugus Pride.

The team was really pumped... Positioning and ball control were key factors in the match, and the Heat proved they got game, and they are willing to play hard, and stay in control, holding them off 1-0.

Coach Scott stated; "The strongest defense I have ever seen, and the most teamwork I have ever been a part of, I'm proud to be a part of Saugus Heat!" Coach Gragas added; "The girls came through, and the score was irrelevant and it was a game all about the heart!"

Remember, this is a game for the kids, and we are more proud of them then we could ever be, but I'm sure they still wanted the win... so Burbank.... They'll See You Soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saugus Pride, Heard In Two States
February 27th, 2005
(Bullhead City, Az) The "Power Of Pride" has it's meaning in this country, but for a youth soccer team out of Saugus, California, the meaning was loud and clear in two states, Arizona and Nevada, as the cheers echoed across the Colorado River.

As the team took the win in the first game, Saturday morning, it was clear that Saugus was in the house!  The power of pride, as a coach, I have always stated it is the capability to make the players parents proud.

The sidelines of The Saugus Heat! is a pride filled one, that shines in the children.  SSSAU--GGGUS--GO SAUGUS - Oh, it's a powerful cheer, as the team plays harder and harder the more they hear it.  To have a sideline of parents, siblings and other family members cheering Saugus Pride, can only make a couple of coaches just as proud!

In the second of the day, the team was not the winning team, but you would not be able to tell that by the cheers.  The girls were playing good soccer, and a reminder, these are good teams from all around that we are challenging.  Head-Strong-Soccer, and these girls have it.  The will of the play and the consistent efforts shows why these girls are traveling all over the western states.

Saturday evening, the Arizona and Nevada mountains provided an awesome sunset and setting for our evening out. An Italian Buffet, great conversation and time well spent, showed that this is a "Family Sport!"

Sunday...  With the sidelines as loud and proud as ever, this team played their hearts out and showed the power of the Heat!  A great game of soccer, that ended in a loss for Saugus, but a pride filled cheer from all.  Never give up!

Bullhead City, Here They Come!
The Saugus Heat! readies to travel this weekend, and hopes to bring back some hardware.
February 22nd, 2005
(Saugus, Ca) After a weekend off, it's time to hit the road again for the  Saugus Heat! GU12 Tournament team.  The team was strong in Victorville two weeks ago, and is pumped about the up coming trip to Arizona.

While the team and their families tend to have fun on the road, some of the girls are learning a different game of soccer.  Tournament is not like fall or spring league play.  Yes, the pressure is different, but the passing and ball control is more precise, and the Saugus Heat! has what it takes to bring home the hardware.  The gel factor on this team is great and the word teamwork shines through.  This strong group of soccer players seems ready, to melt down the competition.

The skills and teamwork shown by Saugus Heat! proved two wins in the Coyote Classic. With the first tournament jitters out of them, it's time to put on the Heat!

A cheering sideline, offering full support, seems to bring out the power of pride in this team, and the coaches couldn't be more proud. With the parents and families on this team supporting them, this team will shine.  And a little yelling from coaches will be the finishing touch!

Good Luck Heat!  and most of all, Have Fun!

2 Wins, 1 Tie, and 1 Loss, sends the Heat Home From Victorville
(Victorville, Ca)  The Saugus Heat GU12 team put up a great fight in their first tournament for 2005.

It was a very good learning experience to say the least.  We have some first time Tournament players and along with the Asst. Coach, a lot was new to the old game.  Challenging the top teams from all over, it's nothing like Spring or Fall League play.  A more strategic game is played, bringing the girls talents to a full headlining show.

It was like a rock concert, cheering and applause from the sideline proved to be a strong support for the team.  The more the sideline cheered, the harder the Heat played.

3 games were played on Saturday, calling for the third to be under the lights, after an already long day, the team put up a strong fight against Burbank.  Defense to hold off the strong team proved that the Saugus Heat! is one strong force, with the will to play the game.  What might show

Stay tuned as the Saugus Heat! prepares for Bull-Head City!

Our Sister Team, GU14 Saugus ICE
We would like to welcome Coach Don Belanger and Saugus ICE to our Tournament Tour 2005. See their schedule here.
THE HEAT IS ON, AS THE SAUGUS HEAT TAKES ON THE COYOTE
(February, 2005 - Saugus, Ca) - Prepare yourselves, as Coach "A" takes the Saugus Heat! into the 2005 AYSO Tournament Season.

To start the Tournament Season off, it's on to Victorville for the Coyote Classic.

The team is strong and looking good, and starting to really gel on the field.  The girls are communicating well, and the passing skills and set plays Coach A has laid down, have really come together.

Are You Ready For Some Soccer?

I sure hope so!  These girls are Athletes, and I see a strong minded team ready to take the field come Saturday.

Speaking of Athletes....  As soon as I hear that word, the next to come to mind is... "Nutrition!"  The Food You Eat, Is How You Work On Your Feet!  So, a coke and a slice of cake might taste good, but how would it do on the field?  Eat healthy, be healthy, and Get In The Game!!!

Nag, Nag, Nag... Sleep is important too!  If you got sleep, "You Got Game!"

Ok, I'll stop with the nags... for now anyways ....

Here we go Heat!,  On to the Games!
