Soccerfest 2002, A Fun Filled Day All In The Name Of Soccer
November 30th, 2002 (Santa Clarita Ca.) - The 14th Annual AYSO Soccerfest was a great success, well, until it poured down rain on Saturday....

Soccerfest is a great way for the kids to enjoy a long Holiday Weekend doing what they love to do, Playing Soccer ! Kids from all three Santa Clarita AYSO Regions get scrambled together to make teams and compete in skills events - Shots On Goal, Throw Ins and Slalom. During the day three games.  The scores

do not count towards the competition. This gives the Soccerfest coaches a chance to have fun as-well-as the kids.

The weather held off as the boys played on Friday, but as the girls were in the final steps of the day on Saturday, the sky opened up with great fury !  On fields that were muddy from the previous nights rain, the girls hit the turf after lunch with sprinkles coming down in a gentle patter.  As the games begin, the rain began falling harder and harder.  By time the first quarter whistle blew, you could hardly see the ball being kicked around the rain soaked field.

The fields cleared out as the parents packed up the goals faster than I have ever seen ! Needless to say, but I will anyways... The Awards were not handed out and results were not available at press time......

Area S Soccerfest 2002

Soccerfest for U10, U12 and U14 and is funded through separate player fees and fundraising activities.  Soccerfest is a special event for players who love the game, come to all the practices, and are involved with AYSO (All Stars are ineligible). Soccerfest will be held the Friday (Boys) and Saturday (Girls) after Thanksgiving at Placerita JHS. Teams are scrambled with players from each Region, and compete in 3 skill events: Shooting, dribbling, and throw in accuracy. Teams will also have 3 forty minute games for fun. Medals will be given to the top teams.  Shirts will be provided, and players will wear shorts and socks from their regular season uniform.  Parents of Soccerfest players are needed to help out during the course of the day in recording scores from the skill events. We need referee  volunteers (please call Bob Shimokochi) and coaching volunteers (please call Mike Lepp) for this fun filled event. It’s a great way to burn off that extra turkey and pumpkin pie!

Congratulations Alexis - You were voted into ALL-STARS

You have been selected for All-Stars by all the coaches in the G-U10 Red Pool.  Your play on the field has been noticed by more than just your coach, it has been noticed by all coaches in our pool.  Way To Go Alexis !   You are Kickin' It's All-Star 2002.

A.Y.S.O. All-Stars are selected by being nominated by the coach, and then set to vote between all pool division coaches.  Each coach usually provides 3 or 4 names to be part of this select group.  The coaches then go over the ratings of all pool players and are able to adjust ratings at this point.  After all are in an agreement with the ratings, the voting for all-stars begins.

A 4 ballot system is laid before the coaches.  On each ballot, the coaches are allowed to vote "4" players.  The ballots are turned in-to the division rep. and calculated with only "2" players being selected.  This is done only 4 times with a total amount of 8 players being selected.  This is done by all pools in our G-U10 division.  The totals make up the team by 2 players from each pool per-team, with a total of 4 All-Star Teams.

The other kids who's names are on the list, go into the Soccerfest pool.  They are then selected in a scramble selection process for a Soccerfest team.

This seasons Soccerfest and All-Star players are :

All-Stars   Alexis  Jamie (*Alternate)
Soccerfest  BreAnna   Rebecca (*Alternate)

* If the selected player is unable to make the commitment to dates of play, the alternate player will then be the selected player. If the Alternate is not able to make the play dates, then the coach goes from the original list containing all players and will retain a player from the set order.

Congratulations BreAnna, You Are Coach Scott's "Sport of the Year"

You are receiving this award because you have shown more respect and pride in the sport of Youth Soccer, then I have ever been shown before.  Your want and willingness to learn is to be recognized and awarded.

Bre, You Have Made Me Proud !

See ya at the field,
Coach Scott
